Create a comprehensive employee development program that meets organizational and individual needsGoal 5: A Well-Managed and Responsive Organization |
Description |
The City has in place or will in the near future several initiatives that promote employee and leadership development:
City Compass
City Compass is a networking program to provide employees the opportunity to interact with other employees, learn about other departments, and build relationships to strengthen job performance and satisfaction. The goal of the program is to create an environment where employees feel engaged, respond better to citizen inquiries and gain a better sense of understanding of their role within City operations.
The Guide program offers new employees the chance to meet one-on-one with existing employees, designated as guides. These guides help new employees integrate into City culture and provide information and connections to learn the different aspects of the City government life. There is also a network of guides through all the City departments willing to meet with new employees to explain how each department fits within the overarching City structure and how departments work together to accomplish similar goals.

The Department of Human Resources and the City's Innovation Team are currently working on integrating the City Compass Program with the City's New Employee Orientation program to engage new employees in a more meaningful way. This initiative is part of a broader effort to create a comprehensive employee development program, which is currently being drafted.
