Review and update an employee reward and recognition program that aligns with organizational values

Description

Doin' Good is a peer-to-peer Employee Recognition program for the City of Charlottesville. We believe that City-wide appreciation is essential to how we work and how we collaborate as coworkers, as departments and as a city. Our hope is that in it's first year of implementation, this three tiered program will help create an Attitude of Gratitude

Daily Level
The first level of recognition focuses on making a conscious daily effort to improve gratitude among City employees. These notecards are a simple and personal way to say “thank you” on a day-to-day basis. Notecards will be distributed to all departments and kept in various central locations so as to be easily accessible to all employees. 

Quarterly Level 
The second level of Doin’ Good involves a quarterly reward system for employees that demonstrate the City Values. Whether someone exhibits Leadership, Trust, Respect, Excellence, or Creativity, all employees are eligible to be nominated by their fellow employees for Doin’ Good Dollars - a gift card from a store of the employees choosing off of a list of approved city vendors. Nomination sheets will be located in the same area as the notecards. Instructions on how to submit forms will come with the delivery of all DOIN’ GOOD materials.

Annual Level
And finally, once a year, the Doin' Good program will congratulate a small handful of employees who truly exemplify our City Values. Employees nominated for gift cards are eligible to be moved on to the next round of reviews, highlighting particularly valued employees. Each candidate’s nomination will be discussed, and the Doin' Good committee will make an annual recommendation to the City Manager. These Employees Who Exemplify City Values will be showcased at an annual employee recognition event held in the Pavilion and will receive a cash bonus.o The Employee Recognition Event will take place in the Pavilion and will be open to all city employees. There will be an ice cream truck at the Pavilion and every employee in attendance will receive a free ice cream! We will also send the ice cream truck to other locations for employees who may not be able to attend event.

Status

This is done and we just had our annual celebration of the Doin' Good award recipients on August 30, 2018.  It was a great success with free ice cream and lots of employee participation.  The plan going forward is to create new values posters based on the five stories who won the main awards.  Those will be under production soon.
