Current Strategy

The number of jobs and businesses in the City is at an all-time high. As we seek to attract additional investment and job creation, the OED has developed the ACE (Advancing Charlottesville Entrepreneurs) micro grant program to help increase revenue and capacity of very small enterprises. This competitive process has assisted over three dozen city based businesses in recent years.

In March 2013, staff began recording the total number of active "countable" buisinesses as of the 1st of each month to give context to the number of new businesses being reported. This number does not include all business licenses, peddler, one-time contractor, certain other one-time activities and duplicate licenses (such as additional licensing for ABC activities) are not included.
