3.3 Provide a variety of transportation and mobility options

Goal 3: A Beautiful and Sustainable Natural and Built Environment
Current Strategy

The City of Charlottesville is a Resource of Regional Importance and Development of Regional Impact. It is also an educational, cultural, entertainment and employment center. Less than 30% of the city employees live within the City Limits. This problem equally applies to employees of UVA, School Board and perhaps, other major private employers. The resulting impact of this condition is high commuting pattern into the city, which exacts enormous impact on the city’s transportation infrastructure. Additionally, the increasing population and compact/clustering nature of development in the city, as well as the journey-to-work from the outlying areas of the county and region necessitates the need to provide a variety of transportation and mobility options such as transit, vehicular, pedestrian, bike and ADA, and trail system.
