The City, with it's older infrastructure in a dense geographical area, is committed to keeping that infrastructure as safe and reliable as possible.  The capital improvement program includes annual funds for such maintenance including street paving, sidewalk repair and ongoing repairs to the City's utilities infrastructure.  While there is always a gap between funding for such maintenance and the overall needs, staff must prioritize these projects using several methods, including looking at data such as roadway performance scores, in order to determine where the most serious needs lie around the City.  

The City will continue to seek SmartScale and other funds from VDOT to leverage its resources to improve infrastructure designed to support economic development and quality of life.

The City will partner with UVA on Emmet Streetscape SmartScale project and the university's Ivy Corridor Revitalization Initiative.
