3.1 Engage in robust and context sensitive urban planning and implementation

Goal 3: A Beautiful and Sustainable Natural and Built Environment
Current Strategy

The City of Charlottesville’s population has been growing by an annual rate of 2% over the past 3-5 years. There has also been a simultaneous increase in development and redevelopment activities, and infrastructure improvement. This growth pressure requires thoughtful and smart planning and development of coherent public policies and strategies designed to address community needs and encourage placemaking.

The City develops and implements Comprehensive Plan, Street That Work and Small Area Plans, development regulations, Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan that contain policies and multi-modal strategies designed to create sustainable, livable and walkable community.  Activities include building inspections, property maintenance, planning and development review process, urban design and traffic management.
