Residents receiving SNAP benefitsGoal 1: An Inclusive Community of Self-sufficient Residents |
Description |
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as Food Stamps) provides benefits to qualifying individuals and households. SNAP benefits can be used to purchase food items. SNAP eligibility is determined based on certain financial and non-financial criteria. There is a work requirement for able-bodied adults without dependents. Individuals must be United States citizens or have legal presence in the country in order to qualify for SNAP assistance.
Due to the case management system conversion that occurred in late 2016, the Virginia Department of Social Services is unable to provide unduplicated client counts per locality by fiscal year. Instead, the 2017 local agency profile report reflects calendar year data for client counts. Data for 2012-2016 has been updated to reflect calendar year as well. VDSS plans to release the information by fiscal year at a later time.
