The Department’s Strategic Plan is dated; most of the plan was conceived in 2005 to 2007, and the most recent update provided by the Department was dated March 6, 2009.[1]
In addition to the need to regularly collect, report and monitor various metrics, a great deal has happened in the Department and in the nation since 2009. The current transition in the Department – the appointment of a new Chief of Police, the major restructuring of the organization, the introduction of a new command staff, and the need for renewed vision and direction in American policing – makes this an ideal time to engage in a strategic planning process in order to chart a clear course for the Department’s future.
