Completed two Gameroom Search Warrant schools, preparing for basic Swat search warrant school for CTU, SRT and Gang.

Funding is not available to increase staffing at this time.  The Matrix study will be out later this month with personnel suggestions and will assist with the priority level of these positions.

We recently received word from City Legal that Vice will be required to file charges on all game room operations which will require lengthy storage times.  This process is currently being revamped and meetings scheduled to meet with the DA to discuss expediting cases due to storage issues.

We identified a part time position and in the process of reclassification to hire a camera technician.  The technician will be responsible for building and maintaining the camera inventory allowing officers to be in the field installing the cameras.  The position is in HR currently being re-classed. 

Part time position has been reclassed and waiver submitted to HR for qualified personnel to be hired and trained.  No other personnel has been assigned.

CTU has been established internally by taking officers from Narcotics, Gang, and Intel.  6 other officers have been loaned to the project from SRT on a trial basis with no guarantee that Patrol will be allowed to stay.  They are measuring the success of the program, as are we, however Patrol is doubtful of its success.  Notes will be compared in March to see if this unit is effective.  Either way CTU will remain and 6 additional officers will be taken internally from Tactical Command if Patrol decides to remove SRT.  CTU is in the process of completing training in regards to search warrants.

Narcotics has had two large scale operations that were successful and resulted in large amounts of narcotics, guns and currency within the last month.  They continue to work with our federal partners in this area.

Registered 20 youth and 4 volunteer coaches for winter basketball.

Registered 120 youth in the winter basketball league and 21 cheerleaders from 6 different schools. Added 15 more volunteer coaches, for a total of 19 coaches. Coaches assist with homework before each practice. Held a community event with a Vietnam lodge where mentors, mentees, and community volunteers painted. 

Registered 10 new players for basketball; registered 3 new coaches; community service volunteer events at Western Hills ES supporting their Valentine's Day dance; basketball games held at Morningside MS and Diamond Hills HS; recruited 20 mentees and 3 mentors; 2 boxers won Golden Gloves titles.

Gang has been redirected the past few months and their numbers in gang related offenses have dropped. We have had several shootings in the last few weeks directed toward gang activity.  Gang has now been refocused on this problem and are on track to address these issues.

The DANI instrument has been returned to the vendor, DANI refunded the cost of the equipment to the City, and the DOJ has given us permission to apply the refunded money to the purchase of new equipment.   The City has submitted an invitation to bid on a GC-FID-MS & on a GC-FID.  Both of these instruments will be for BAC analysis.  The GC-FID-MS will be paid for with funds from the 2016 JAG Grant.  The GC-FID will be paid for with the refunded money from DANI, money from the 2016 JAG Grant and from the Crime Laboratory’s existing budget.

 We are also currently in the process of purchasing a remote firing cart, three Hydrogen Generators, a Mideo training system and a new digital camera to replace an old digital camera on a comparison microscope.

 The Crime Laboratory is actively acquiring new and replacement equipment, technology and software in order to become more efficient and to stay on the cutting edge of forensic science.
