Held bi-weekly Tuesday afternoon meetings discussing ongoing crime problems within the division and also with the COP Captains monthly. We held a total of 7 focus group meetings that included the community and employees.

  • NPO's continue to work with Code Compliance in correcting issues that face Northwest. These issues and remedies are noted in the weekly report for each NPO in Northwest Division. The Commander of Northwest Division drives the neighborhoods in order to address any quality of life issues. We continue to coordinate all city resources as needed to respond to citizen complaints or quality of life issues that arise. Each NPO walked/drove their respective beats; they contact Code Compliance once a week on homeless camps and the homeless coordinator in order to seek assistance. In addition, they discuss with Code Compliance the areas of blight (tall grass, parking in yard, substandard structures, dumping) within their beat as well communicate with specialized units to assist with problem establishments. Met with Code Compliance on 7 occasions this month to address quality of life issued.

Northwest has identified and established a point of contact with assistance programs and track placements for help at each center. The NPO's collaborated with the above mentioned organizations in addition to the FWPD Homeless coordinator. Our priority when working with homeless individuals is to first educate them on and offer assistance. This month we made contact with approximately 10-15 homeless individuals from two different camps and offered assistance. We still need to follow-up to determine if any took advantage of the assistance offered.

During our monthly meetings we have tasked/delegated the authority for NPOs to take ownership of their respective areas and reach out to specialized units and their beat officers. NPOs attend more than one roll call per week. We have a citywide property crimes meeting so we communicate across divisional lines. The specialized units weekly reports are disseminated to all patrol supervisors. We reach out to specialized units on a weekly basis and vice versa. The Criminal Investigations Unit Lieutenant has also attended several roll calls.

Commander Criado and Captain Krouse forwarded all complaints to Lieutenant Carbajal with   Vice/Narcotics with a cc to the NPO supervisors. Any other units with a need to know are also notified. NPO's follow-up immediately with Code Enforcement when a game room has been problematic.

They also attended STEMS (Science Technology Engineering Math) training so that they can engage the youth at schools and recreation centers after school. STEMS is a training that enables Officers to introduce youth to basic robotics and engineering through electronic games/equipment and computers.

It was also used for every community event we held in the Northwest Division: Diamond Hill, Northside, Marine Creek, various Areas of blight with Northwest Division and regularly scheduled community meetings in order to introduce the citizens to the storefront. Keep in mind that we only have one storefront to share between North and Northwest and currently only two for the entire city are available due to maintenance.
