Program Information
The FWPD promotes ongoing dialogue with city youth. We will further collaborate with the community by sponsoring Youth Committees in each police division. Ideally, youths between the ages of 14 and 18 will comprise youth committees that meet monthly or quarterly at a citywide forum where representatives discuss issues of concern and importance from the youth’s perspective. At such Youth Forums, the youth and police officers are the key players and will have exclusive dialogue while other attendees will take a support role.

The primary goals are to build positive relationships with youth, provide a forum where the youth feel empowered to speak, and engage in meaningful dialogue regarding police and youth activity. Panels will alternate between youth and police hosted, with some forums mixed. Ideally, each division will have an elected or appointed youth board that will distribute a monthly agenda prior to each meeting. The targeted start date is Fall 2017.
