| | (ARCHIVED) Issue 12 Notifications of Intent (NOIs) for the installation of Railroad Quiet Zones on an annual basis.TPW - Transportation / Public Works |
Analysis | |
Measure Definition & Importance |
Railroad Quiet Zone (QZ) installations modify crossings to eliminate noise from train horns. The installation modifications eliminate noise pollution to the surrounding community. The target of 12 NOIs was determined by available funding. Several reviews and inspections from railroad companies as well as other governmental agencies (i.e. adjacent cities, the Police Department, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)) are required before a QZ is approved for installation. However, the FRA makes the final decision. The impact of not having a QZ in place include noise nuisance and a lower quality of life for residents in the surrounding community.
