Measure Definition & Importance |
The City of Fort Worth has approximately 317 linear miles of engineered drainage channels which require maintenance. Of those 317 miles, 42 miles are lined channels and 275 miles are engineered earthen channels. This infrastructure conveys stormwater (as well as the debris in the stormwater) and expels it in nearby creeks and rivers. As a result, maintaining the various channel systems at their designed capacity is essential in reducing the flood risk for citizens, businesses, and city-owned property. The Stormwater Field Operations Team uses dozers, excavators, pay loaders, and compactors to perform the necessary maintenance tasks. The TPW work order systems give the Stormwater Field Operations Team the ability to view all of the City's drainage easements on their personal computers or on a tablet out in the field. With support from the Stormwater Field Engineering Team, a scope of work is developed to identify the types of maintenance needed. Projects are then prioritized and placed on the scheduled maintenance list.
