Nixle is an open-communication platform that allows public safety departments to distribute mass emergency notifications to the communities they serve. Nixle enables real-time, two way communication through text, email, voice messages, web and social media. This measure assists the Department in determining its reach in distributing information during critical situations to people who live and work in Fort Worth. The current target is to have 40,000 people registered for Nixle. The current count is 32,000 with a goal of adding 5,000 enrollees each year based on historical registration trends. Increased participation usually follows successful marketing campaigns which may include notices in utility bills, particpation at large community events, media coverage, etc. There are not any industry recognized standards for measuring Nixle participation.
