Measure Definition & Importance |
The measure is defined as the interval of time beginning when the first unit is enroute to a fire and/or emergency medical services (EMS) event (wheels rolling) and ending when the first unit arrives on scene (wheels stopped a the address of the incident). This measure focuses on how quickly fire station personnel can drive to the location of the emergency and is one of three components defined in NFPA Standard 1710 4.1.2.1 (3) relating to emergency response system performance. (The others being call receipt and processing time and turnout time.) Increased travel times may signal a number of things, including the need for more fire stations, increased road closures, limitations in transportation connectivity and gaps in operating procedures and training.
