Utilize various funding sources to construct small capital improvements, with our in-house small capital construction crews (2), at 10-15 park sites valued at $1,000,000.00 / yr. Small capital projects are generally defined as projects <$250,000 or having a singular scope (trails only, playground only, shelter only, etc.). Small capital project are important to the city because they are typically performed in smaller neighborhood and pocket parks, which don't otherwise receive large funding amounts. By utilizing in-house construction crews for these small capital projects, we are able to deliver projects to the community more expeditiously, as there is not a lengthy design process and no bidding and awarding phase. We considered a typical capital project, estimated to cost $1,000,000, would take approx. 12-18 months to complete; this includes design, advertisement, bidding, award and construction. When utilizing in-house construction crews (2 @ 4.5AP's/EA) we are able to provide park improvements at 10-15 park sites in the same time frame, with budget ranging from $50K-$250K. Small capital projects are typically funded by Gas Funds, Grant Funds and Special/Donation Funds. By utilizing in-house construction crews we are able to expedite the construction process and provide park improvements to a wider audience than with typical design, bid and build processes.
