Measure Definition & Importance |
Measure of energy sustainability using the amount of electricity (in percentage) generated or saved compared to the total electrical demand of the facility. The importance of this measure is related to a). The $35M cost of the project is paid through the savings of electricity not purchased. The payback for the project is 12.5 years. The goal is for this facility to become energy neutral by end of 2017.

Data Source Details & Calculation Information |
Data is collected by the VCWRF Technical Services Group. Electrical meter measuring the amount of electricity generated by Gas Turbine #1 and Gas Turbine #2 along with the amount of equivalent electricity saved from Steam Turbine #1 and Steam Turbine #2 is compared to the total electrical demand of the facility in kWh. Total Electrical Demand is equal to the total amount of electricity generated, saved and purchased.
VC Sustainability = (kWh generated + kWh saved)/(kWh generated + kWh saved + kWh purchased)
kWh generated = kWh generated Gas Turbine #1 + kWh generated Gas Turbine #2;
[kWh saved = Total Electric Blower (kw)X Runtime (hrs.)/ Total Electric Blower Output/day (SCFM)]XTotal Steam Blower Output (SCFM)
kWh purchased = Total kWh purchased from Oncor as taken from the G.E. Genius meter on-site
