Measure Definition & Importance |
The Debt Ratio indicates the percentage of a company's assets that are provided via debt. It is the ratio of outstanding debt to total assets. The higher the ratio, the more the entity has leveraged itself, i.e. borrowed. A ratio greater than 0.50 indicates that the company's assets are mainly debt financed. The target is set based on recommendations from Boise State University environmental finance program.
