Measure Definition & Importance |
An “indemnity claim” is a claim by an employee for worker's compensation benefits for which payments are made or anticipated to be made to an employee who has suffered an injury or occupational disease in the course and scope of employment. “Indemnity” refers to monetary compensation to the employee for lost wages if the employee is unable to work as a result of the injury or illness. This includes occupational injury leave benefits for Civil Service employees.
The importance of measuring the number of indemnity claims is to determine trends in the numbers of indemnity claims, which is the largest cost driver in worker's compensation. For purposes of this performance measure, an indemnity claim is a workers’ compensation in which income benefits are paid or anticipated to be paid by the City’s TPA.
