Demolitions is comprised of one Senior Officer who oversees all aspects of the process. This process involves determining which properties the City has authorization to demolish, inspecting the property, determining which properties need asbestos testing/abatement, receiving bids from contractors, and working with outside contacts. The requirement is that 80% of the authorized demolitions, that do not require asbestos testing, take place within 45 days of authorization. This strict requirement is necessary due to the hazardous nature of these structures. These types of structures present life, health and safety issues for the community. These structures also present blight for the neighborhood and have the effect of bringing down property values.

A demolitions spreadsheet is maintained on the department's shared server (Fs100>CodeComp>Special Projects Division>working.Demo List - FY15.xls. The report is updated on a continual basis by the Senior Officer in charge of demolitions. The report contains a running total of demolitions for FY15 conducted by both the City and property owners. Property owner demolitions are maintained because the City may have authorization to demolish, but the property owner has incurred the cost his/herself. This is tracked to account for time spent by the Senior Officer as well as verification that authorized (for City demo) of authorized propertiesprovide informonthly totals for activities documented by the SNI team. This spreadsheet is maintained by the Special Projects supervisor. The report is a cumulative report used to monitor the progress of demolitions and the performance goals set by the division.
