Analysis | |
Measure Definition & Importance |
This measure will track the tons of waste diverted by the City from landfill disposal. Diverting waste materials from landfill disposal will return recyclable materials to the market place as raw materials and increase the life of the City’s landfill. By tracking the tonnage of diverted materials, the City can estimate the remaining life of the landfill. An increase in the percentage of diverted materials also increases revenue to the City from the market place for raw materials diverted.

Data Source Details & Calculation Information |
The data for this measurement is comprised from tonnage reports from the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) on blue cart recyclables as well as the drop off stations, the yard waste/organics processing at the Southeast landfill, and the tons of waste materials disposed of at the City's Southeast Landfill or other contracted disposal sites. At times there might be other materials collected that are counted as diversion so long as they are not disposed of in a landfill.
Actual = (tons diverted/(tons diverted + tons disposed))*100
