Measure Definition & Importance |
This measure shows how well Animal Control Officers are doing in getting stray animals back to their owners as soon as they are caught, rather than bringing these animals into the shelter. It also may help measure effectiveness of microchipping, education regarding licensing, and fencing. This measure also includes the total number of stray dogs captured, thus the total number impounded (those not returned to owner in the field) which was 14% in 2015 (609 animals) . This measure is important because it decreases the number of animals impounded and housed at the shelter, thus saving tax dollars.

Data Source Details & Calculation Information |
These reports are in the PetPoint shelter management software. Each officer enters the outcome into PetPoint in the field. Log into PetPoint. Roll your mouse over Reports (at the top of the screen) and click on Report Website.
For # returned in field: Scroll down and click on "Animal: Outcome" link. At Outcome Type dropdown list, choose "Return to Owner/Guardian." At Outcome Sub Type dropdown list, choose "RTO in the Field." At Species dropdown list, choose "Dog." At Outcome Start Date, enter starting date. At Outcome End Date, enter ending date. At Detail/Summary, choose "Summary." Submit.
For total # strays captured: Scroll down and click on "Animal: Intake" link. At Intake Type dropdown list, choose "Stray." At Intake Sub Type dropdown list, choose "ACO Pickup-Caught", "ACO Pickup-Stray", and "Chemical Capture." At Species dropdown list, choose "Dog." At Intake Start Date, enter starting date. At Intake End Date, enter ending date. At Detail/Summary, choose "Summary." Submit. "Total Intakes" = total # strays captured.
