According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) each year, one (1) in six (6) Americans will get sick from contaminated foods or beverages; 3,000 will die. This measure serves as a key performance indicator for the Consumer Health Division because it allows the division to allocate its resources to this high priority services request. The sooner Consumer Health inspectors can respond to foodborne illness complaints the sooner they can implement public health inerventions to prevent further foodborne illnesses/outbreaks.

Data Source resides in the Consumer Health Division SWEEPS software. Illness investigations reports can be extracted from the SWEEPS database by selecting the Complaint > Reports > Complaint Status Report tabs in sequence. Then by entering the following information in the Program box - 16F and the Complaint Code box "1645 - Illness Report Ref". After that, the individual needs to select the "Active", "Closed", and "Pending" boxes on the screen. On the same screen, the invidual doing the query, needs to input the desired date range to obtain the results of the quarterly performance. The CH Manager or a CH supervisor can pull this report.
