| | Increase checkout of library materialsLIB-Library |
Analysis | |
Current FY21 total represents an increase of 8.3% more items checked out over previous year FY20. This increase is attributed to a few factors: Complete closures of all branch locations from March 13 through mid-May, increased use of e-books and increase size of ebook collection of materials available in FY21, and the total reopening of all branch libraries and restoration of total operating hours in FY21. For the first time ever, the Library had over 1 million electronic book checkouts during this fiscal year.
Measure Definition & Importance |
Borrowing materials from the Library's collection is the primary library service people use most. Circulation statistics provide a count of the number of times materials are checked out or renewed. This data helps identify trends that indicate how well the library is meeting the needs for the public interest and helps determine allocation of resources such as materials, staff, funds and automated self-check services. Examples of materials that can be checked out include: books, e-books, downloadable books, CD's, downloadable music files, DVD's. The FY2016 target is based on projected 2% increase over previous year FY2015.

Data Source Details & Calculation Information |
The Library's Polaris Integrated Library system counts each item check-out and provides totals that are reported monthly and annually. The system has a reporting tool that generates this basic measure. Paul Orr will store the data in a shared file: 2016 Business Plan/PS/Circulation. Each check-out equals one count.
